Tanais longichelipes Krøyer in Lang (1973): 206 –208, 211, figs 7a–b, 8, 13a–b. (Type locality: Saint Croix, Virgin Islands, Type male, SMNH).

Leptochelia longichelipes: Sieg (1983): 477 (Catalogue); Suárez-Morales et al. (2004): 67 –71, figs 33–35.

Geographic distribution. Mexican Caribbean, Caribbean Sea and south-western Florida.

Habitat. In reef lagoons, littoral.

Remarks. Lang (1973) reviewed the material, “ Tanais longichelipes n. sp., St. Croix, 4–10 Fv. (d.h faten) Kröyer, 1848” and “St. Bartholomé, Leptochelia longimana n. sp. Göes”, deposited in the Swedish Museum of Natural History and pointed differences between them. However, Lang (1973) did not propose or describe Leptochelia longichelipes as a new species. In addition, the names of the specimens reviewed by Lang (1973) were never previously published, so these names are invalid and not available for use. The status of these species remains uncertain; therefore, it would be necessary to make a redescription of them and define their specific status.
