Distribution: Mainland of Papua New Guinea, sea level to 2860 m.
Conservation: IUCN – Endangered; uncommon.
Discussion: Does not include spadix . Groves (1982 d) regarded this species as a subspecies of the earlier named matschiei; but see Flannery (1990:100-104), also Ganslosser (1980). Does not include pulcherrimus (see below).
