Hypleurochilus pseudoaequipinnis Bath, 1994

SMNS 24224 (1 specimen, Bom Bom Islet) and SMNS 24131 (1 specimen, Bom Bom Islet). UFES 141 (1 specimen, Santana Islet). Afonso et al. (1999) recorded this species as Hypleurochilus aequipinnis Guenther, 1861 , based on an underwater observation by PW. H. aequipinnis and H. pseudoaequipinnis ^ZBK are sister species in the eastern and the western Atlantic, respectively. Surprisingly, the three SMNS and UFES specimens from São Tomé and Príncipe correspond to the western Atlantic pseudoaequipinnis ^ZBK and not the eastern Atlantic aequipinnis in the shape of the supraorbital tentacles and the colour of the head, as described by Bath (1994).
