Description of Sphingomicrobium lutaoense CAU 1116

Cells are Gram-staining-negative, non-flagellated, non-pigmented, and short rod-shaped. Colonies are circular, convex, with entire margin, and cream-colored after 3 days of incubation on MA (pH 7.0) at 35°C. Positive for esculin hydrolysis, but negative for nitrate reduction, indole production, glucose fermentation, arginine dihydrolase, urease, gelatinase, and β -galactosidase in the API 20NE test. Potassium gluconate, adipic acid, malic acid, trisodium citrate, and phenylacetic acid are utilized but D-glucose, L-arabinose, D-mannose, D-mannitol, N -acetylglucosamine, D-maltose and capric acid are not utilized. Strain CAU 1116 (= NIBRBAC 000498502) was isolated from a reclaimed land, Incheon, Korea.
