Holaptilon pusillulum Beier, 1964

Distribution: Jordan (New to Jordan) and Palestine.

Material examined: (3) specimens: Assarow as Salt 16.V.2004 (1F, 1M); Al Qaeda Street (Anjarah) 15.VIII.05 (1N).

Remarks: Holaptilon pusillulum is recorded for the first time from Jordan. So far, it appears to be endemic to Jordan and Palestine. This species is the smallest species among Jordanian Mantodea (10–14 mm). It is very active and a good runner. It vibrates its black antennae quickly and continuously. Its color greatly resembles its habitat, thus giving the individuals good camouflage. When disturbed, it usually escapes quickly and hides in spiny and thorny gray bushes. Therefore, they are difficult to see and catch. It was observed standing on small stones near and on Sarcopoterium spinosum .
