Type Locality. Gowchar (Gauchar) (27.6992°N, 85.3567°E) near Kathmandu, Bagmati Province, Nepal .

Distribution in Nepal: Bagmati Province, Kavrepalanchowk District, Roshi Khola, Panauti, Cha Khola, Khasre; Kathmandu District, Gowchar, Kathmandu (Michaelsen 1907; Stephenson 1923; Nesemann et al. 2007).

Distribution elsewhere: Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia (Java), Myanmar, and Pakistan (Mandal et al. 2010; Ahmed et al. 2020; Blakemore et al. 2014; Narayanan et al. 2024).

Habitat: Cropland, mud sediment, mixed-forest, ponds, riverbank (Nesemann et al. 2007; Miglani et al. 2022).

Ecology: Endogeic (Sinha et al. 2003; Chaudhary et al. 2008; Miglani et al. 2022).

Remarks: It was considered endemic to Nepal (Michaelsen, 1907; 1908) and collected by R.A. Hodgart and others from Roshi Khola at 1410 m asl and Cha Khola, Khasre, and Gowchar (currently Tribhuvan International Airport area), Kathmandu. Later, it was recorded in China, India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Myanmar, and Pakistan (Blakemore et al. 2014). Now, known to be widespread all over the Himalayan region (Gate 1972).
