The combination in Xylosma in pre-empted by three earlier names. The new epithet chosen commemorates Charly Zongo (1980–2015), for his contribution to our knowledge on the seed physiology of New Caledonian plants (Bombarda et al. 2010; Zongo 2010; Zongo et al. 2016).
