Trochodota Ludwig, 1891
The genus Trochodota was introduced by Ludwig on page 359 (fascicle 13/14 of Ludwig 1889-1892 = Ludwig 1891b; cf. also Waterhouse 1902: p. 385, Schulze et al. 1938: p. 3568 and Neave 1940: p. 574) of his book; since then, the name has been used frequently and partially emended (e.g., Ludwig 1892b; Clark 1908; Pawson 1971b; Rowe 1976). Ludwig (1889–1892) listed two species within his new genus:
(1) Trochodota studeri (Théel) (Ludwig 1891b: p. 359) [= Taeniogyrus purpureus (Lesson, 1830)]; (2) Trochodota venusta (Semon) (Ludwig 1891b: p. 359) [= Taeniogyrus venustus (Semon, 1887)].
Finally, as recently stated by O’Loughlin & VandenSpiegel (2010), this genus is a younger synonym of Taeniogyrus Semper, 1867 .
