Type specimen. Holotype: Male, East Madagascar, Ifanadiana district, near Ranomafana, alt. 700 m, 30 iii 1955, leg. P. Viette; gen. slide no. CIS-7365 (in MNHN).
Diagnosis. This new species can be easily distinguished from its congeners by its broad, yellowish white, antemedian and postmedian bands (with a narrow band of the same color along the inner margin of the forewing).
Description. Male (Figs. 16A–C). Wingspan, 16.0 mm. Head: yellowish white dorsally, with yellowishwhite erect scales laterally. Antenna slightly longer than forewing; scape elongated, yellowish white all around; flagellum yellowish white, without annulations. 2 nd segment of labial palpus (Fig. 16C) thickened, with rough scales ventrally, dark brown in basal 1/3 dorsally, yellowish brown on outer surface with pale orange band along ventral edge, yellowish white on inner surface; 3 rd segment strongly upturned, as long as 2 nd segment, yellowish white. Thorax: tegula dark brown; thorax yellowish white dorsally. Hind tibia with dark-brown scales dorsally; its apex white. Forewing slightly broadened distally; costa arched around 1/3, nearly straight medially, then slightly convex beyond postmedian band; ground color dark brown; antemedian band broad; postmedian band slightly broadened near costa, nearly straight; a yellowish-white band along inner margin; apex rather acute; termen slightly sinuate, concave above middle; fringe pale brownish; venation with R 5 to apex; base of M 2 remote from M 3; M 3 free; CuA 1 and CuA 2 stalked. Hind wing ground color grayish; venation complete, base of M 2 nearly connate with M 3 + CuA 1; M 3 and CuA 1 stalked for basal 1/2. Abdomen: dark brown dorsally, white on tergum VII and brownish orange on tergum VIII; spinose zones on terga rather inconspicuous (Fig. 16F).
Male genitalia (Figs. 16D, E): Uncus slender, tapering distally, extending clearly beyond caudal margin of basal plate of gnathos. Basal plate of gnathos somewhat semi-ovate, sclerotized; median process very small, broad basally, narrowed with sharply pointed apex. Tegumen somewhat short, quadrate, strongly angled at latero-distal corners. Valva broad basally; costa with its ventral margin rather straight in basal 1/3, then abruptly oblique; sacculus broadly developed; cucullus slightly narrowed basally, then dilated distally with rounded upper margin. Vinculum a narrow band. Juxta with a pair of triangular median processes; latero-caudal lobes short, somewhat triangular. Aedeagus slightly longer than valva, as broad as distal part of cucullus; cornuti consisting of a bundle of setae and a large sack with minute spinules.
Female unknown.
Distribution. Madagascar (eastern region).
Etymology. The species name is derived from the Latin substantive zona (= a belt), referring to the welldeveloped, pale yellowish, transverse bands of the forewing.
