Diagnosis. The forewing length is 11.5–15.5 mm in males and 15.5–18.0 mm in females. The continental subspecies superficially differs from the island nominate one in the somewhat more orange shade of the forewing ground colour, and the slightly narrower yellow stripes along the veins. In the male genitalia, the medial costal process is slightly distally broader than in B. p. pulchra, the distal lobe of the distal saccular process is somewhat longer than the dorsal one (they are more or less equal in length in the nominate subspecies), the dorsal lobe is basally broader, and the 3 rd medial diverticulum of the phallus vesica bears larger cornuti distally. The female genitalia of the two subspecies are very similar but the ductus and the corpus bursae of B. p. pulcherrima are somewhat broader than in B. p. pulchra .
Distribution. Southern Russian Far East (Primorye Territory), Korea, China (Heilongjiang, Hebei, Shandong, Shaanxi, Gansu, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Fujian, Hubei, Guangxi, Sichuan, and Yunnan Provinces), and northern Laos (Dubatolov et al. 1993; Fang 2000; Dubatolov 2008; Bucsek 2020; Kishida 2011).
