Cassia alata Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 378. 1753.
"Habitat in America calidiore." RCN: 2976.
Lectotype (Isely in Mem. New York Bot. Gard. 25(2): 197. 1975): Herb. Clifford: 158, Cassia 3 (BM-000558725) .
Current name: Senna alata (L.) Roxb. ( Fabaceae: Caesalpinioideae).
Note: As noted by Isely (in Mem. New York Bot. Gard. 25: 197. 1975), de Wit (in Webbia 11: 232. 1956) wrongly designated a Patrick Browne collection in LINN, not received by Linnaeus until 1758, as lectotype. Brenan (in Milne-Redhead & Polhill, Fl. Trop. E. Africa, Leguminosae 2: 64 (1967) indicated Clifford material (BM) as a syntype. Most later authors have accepted the Clifford material as lectotype and Isely’s is the earliest formal typification.
