Chrysanthemum coronarium Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 890. 1753, nom. cons.
"Habitat in Creta, Sicilia." RCN: 6448.
Conserved type (Turland in Taxon 53: 1072. 2004): Greece. Kriti (Crete): Nomos Irakliou, Eparhia Kenourgiou, 500m E of Gangales, E side of road to Vali, 250m, 13 Apr 2003, Kyriakopoulos & Turland sub Turland 1166 (UPA; iso- B, BM, MO).
Current name: Glebionis coronaria (L.) Cass, ex Spach ( Asteraceae).
Note: Chrysanthemum coronarium had long been treated as the generitype until Trehane (in Taxon 44: 439. 1995) proposed the conservation of Chrysanthemum with C. indicum L. as the conserved type, in order to restrict the generic name to the florists’ chrysanthemum. The proposal was successful, resulting in Glebionis Cass, becoming the correct generic name for C. segetum L. and C. coronarium .
The earliest typification of C. coronarium was published by Dillon (in Fieldiana, Bot., n.s., 7: 5. 1981), who designated 1012.25 (LINN) as the type. Unfortunately, this specimen is identifiable as Glebionis segetum (L.) Fourr. (syn. C. segetum L.). Turland (in Taxon 53: 1072. 2004) successfully proposed the conservation of C. coronarium with a conserved type.
