Croton aromaticus Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 1005. 1753.

"Habitat in Zeylona." RCN: 7280.

Lectotype (Chakrabarty & Balakrishnan, Bull. Bot. Survey India 34: 26. 1992; Webster in Jarvis & al., Regnum Veg. 127: 39. 1993): Herb. Hermann 1: 63, No. 345 (BM-000594495) .

Current name: Croton aromaticus L. ( Euphorbiaceae).

Note: Specific epithet spelled “aromaticum” in the protologue.

Chakrabarty & Balakrishnan indicated both Hermann collections (vol. 1: 63; 4: 21) as the type. As the specimens appear to be part of a single gathering (Art. 9.15), their choice is accepted, with Webster restricting this to the material in vol. 1: 63 shortly afterwards. Croton tiglium L., not C. aromaticus, is the generitype of Croton .
