Collinsonia canadensis Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 28. 1753.
"Habitat in Virginiae, Canadae sylvis." RCN: 222.
Lectotype (Stearn, Introd. Linnaeus’ Sp. Pl. (Ray Soc. ed.): 47. 1957): [icon] " Collinsonia " in Linnaeus, Hort. Cliff.: 14, t. 5. 1738. - Voucher: Herb. Clifford: 14, Collinsonia 1 (BM) .
Generitype of Collinsonia Linnaeus.
Current name: Collinsonia canadensis L. ( Lamiaceae).
Note: Epling (in J. Bot. 67: 6. 1929) termed the Clifford sheet as “standard” but also noted a Kalm sheet in LINN, and Clayton material in BM. Shinners (in Sida 1: 80. 1962) regarded Epling as having chosen it as lectotype ( “… was designated lectotype by Epling … (phototype in Gray Herbarium examined)"). However, Epling’s standard specimens are not equivalent to types (see Jarvis & al. in Taxon 50: 508. 2001). Stearn’s choice of the Clifford plate predates Shinners’ acceptance of the Clifford sheet as the type.
