Carlina vulgaris Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 828, 1231. 1753.
"Habitat in Europae montosis, aridis, sabulosis." RCN: 5995.
Lectotype ( Kästner & Meusel in Jarvis & al., Regnum Veg. 127: 30. 1993): Herb. Linn. No. 970.5 (LINN) .
Generitype of Carlina Linnaeus (vide Green, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 179. 1929).
Current name: Carlina vulgaris L. ( Asteraceae).
Note: The trivial epithets of Carlina corymbosa and C. vulgaris were erroneously transposed on p. 828 of Species Plantarum. Linnaeus corrected this in the errata on p. 1231, so that Carlina species no. 3 and its protologue is C. corymbosa (not C. vulgaris) and Carlina species no. 4 and its protologue is C. vulgaris (not C. corymbosa).
