Generitype of Cucumis Linnaeus (vide Green, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 190. 1929).

Current name: Cucumis sativus L. ( Cucurbitaceae).

Note: Jeffrey (in Kew Bull. 34: 794. 1980) designated the Hortus Cliffortianus diagnosis as the lectotype but a phrase name cannot serve as a type. Keraudren-Aymonin (in Aubréville & Leroy, Fl. Cambodge Laos Viêt-Nam 15: 72 (1975) similarly indicated as type a Hortus Cliffortianus illustration ("t. 451") which does not exist.
