Cerastium strictum Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 439. 1753.

"Habitat in Alpibus Austriacis, Helveticis." RCN: 3404.

Lectotype (Bechi in Webbia 52: 176, f. 2. 1998): Herb. Burser XI: 119 (UPS) .

Current name: Arenaria grandiflora L. ( Caryophyllaceae).

Note: Möschl (in Mitt. Naturwiss. Vereines Steiermark 103: 161. 1973) designated 603.21 (LINN) as type. Despite not indicating the sheet number, it is the only sheet associated with this name, and Ugborogho (in Phyton (Buenos Aires) 35: 175, f. 3. 1977) illustrated this collection. However, this material conflicts with the diagnosis in a number of characters and it is also identifiable as Arenaria montana L. (1755) . Another collection, Herb. Burser XI: 119 (UPS), is an explicitly cited specimen and is therefore a syntype, taking precedence for lectotypification purposes (Art. 9.10) over uncited material such as 603.21 (LINN). It matches the protologue well, is a specimen of Arenaria grandiflora L., and Bechi (in Webbia 52: 176, f. 2. 1998) therefore designated it as the lectotype. Fortunately, C. strictum L. (1753) cannot displace A. grandiflora L. (1759) because of the existence of A. strictum Michx., so C. strictum falls into the synonymy of A. grandiflora .
