Note: Pruski (in Brittonia 51: 326. 1999) states Anguria trifoliata L. (1763) is a new combination for this but the evidence seems purely circumstantial; C. trifoliatus disappears in 1763 (when A. trifoliata appears) and does not feature in Syst. Nat. ed. 12 (1767) either. However, the two names do not have the same diagnosis, and A. trifoliata has Plumier Pl. Amer.: t. 99 as a synonym, unlike C. trifoliatus . There is no explicit link between the names apart from an epithet in common.
