Cassia tora Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 376. 1753.
"Habitat in India." RCN: 2961.
Lectotype (Brenan in Kew Bull. 13: 250. 1958): Herb. Hermann 4: 79, No. 152 (BM-000628410) .
Current name: Senna tora (L.) Roxb. ( Fabaceae: Caesalpinioideae).
Note: Fawcett & Rendle (Fl. Jamaica 4: 106. 1920) indicated Hermann elements (BM) as type but this did not distinguish between the specimens and illustrations in this collection. De Wit (in Webbia 11: 277. 1956) wrongly indicated 528.9 (LINN) as the holotype: it is a Patrick Browne collection not received by Linnaeus until 1758, and not original material for the name. Brenan appears to have made the earliest explicit type choice.
