Cytisus cajan Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 739. 1753.
"Habitat in India." RCN: 5440.
Lectotype (Fawcett & Rendle, Fl. Jamaica 4: 71. 1920; Westphal, Pulses Ethiopia, Taxon. Agric. Signif.: 64, 68. 1974): Herb. Hermann 1: 14, No. 279 (BM-000594445) .
Current name: Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp. ( Fabaceae: Faboideae).
Note: Fawcett & Rendle (Fl. Jamaica 4: 71. 1920) indicated Herb. Hermann material (BM) as type. Although there is material in several volumes, it appears to have been part of a single gathering. Consequently, theirs is accepted as the first typification (Art. 9.15), with the choice subsequently restricted by Westphal in 1974. Verdcourt (in Milne-Redhead & Polhill, Fl. Trop. E. Africa, Leguminosae 4: 709. 1971) indicated two collections in Herb. Hermann (BM) as syntypes but gave no indication of intending to designate a lectotype. See extensive discussion of the original elements by van der Maesen (in Agric. Univ. Wageningen Pap. 85-4: 13. 1985).
