Generitype of Corylus Linnaeus (vide Green, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 189. 1929).

Current name: Corylus avellana L. ( Betulaceae).

Note: Browicz (in Rechinger, Fl. Iranica 97: 4. 1972) indicated 1132.1 (LINN) as type but as this is annotated “byzantinus” by Linnaeus, and appears to be a post-1753 addition to the herbarium, it cannot be original material for the name.
