Carduus mollis Linnaeus, Centuria II Plantarum: 30. 1756.
"Habitat in alpibus Austriae." RCN: 5973.
Lectotype (Conti in Willdenowia 28: 49, f. 1. 1998): [icon] " Carduus mollis I " in Clusius, Rar. Stirp. Pannon.: 661, 662. 1583. - Epitype (Conti in Willdenowia 28: 49. 1998): Austria. In collibus apricis prope Vindobonam, 5.1879, Halacsy s.n. (G).
Current name: Jurinea mollis (L.) Rchb. ( Asteraceae).
Note: Danin & Davis (in Davis, Fl. Turkey 5: 443. 1975) designated Herb. Linn. 966.43 (LINN) as the lectotype. However, Conti (in Willdenowia 28: 47. 1998) rejected this choice on the grounds of conflict with the protologue, the specimen being labelled “Oriente”, probably from Turkey, and almost certainly belonging to a different taxon.
