Crepis rhagadioloides Linnaeus, Systema Naturae, ed. 12, 2: 524; Mantissa Plantarum: 108. 1767.
"Habitat ..." RCN: 5885.
Neotype (Greuter in Willdenowia 33: 236. 2003): Herb. Linn. No. 955.26 (LINN) .
Current name: Picris rhagadioloides (L.) Desf. ( Asteraceae).
Note: The application of this name was for many years uncertain. Lack (in Taxon 24: 115. 1975) reasoned that, from the description, it could not apply to a species of Picris, and excluded it from the genus. However, Greuter (in Willdenowia 33: 236. 2003) argues very plausibly that a slip of the pen in Linnaeus’ diagnosis was responsible for this. Greuter consequently took up the name in Picris, and also typified it.
