Note: For a discussion of the difficulties associated with this name, see Christensen (in Brit. Phycol. Bull. 3: 466-467. 1968), who treated it as a " species minus cognita ". The name may threaten Vaucheria dillwynii (F. Weber & Mohr) C. Agardh and may be a candidate for rejection.
