Cryphalus discretus Eichhoff

Cryphalus discretus Eichhoff, 1878a: 385 .

Cryphalus scabricollis Eichhoff, 1878b: 491 . Synonymy: Wood 1989: 172.

Recorded from Bhutan (as C. scabricollis) by Schedl (1975).

Distribution. Recorded from India and Sri Lanka through Southeast Asia to Indonesia and as far East as the Solomon Is. Introduced into the Mediterranean region.

Biology. Most species of Cryphalus are host-specific at the level of the host family, but C. discretus has been recorded from several different plant families (Wood & Bright 1992). It is likely that some of these records involve misidentification of the beetle. Wood (1989) notes that the species is common in Ficus (Moraceae) in the Oriental region, and this is also the host in the Mediterranean region (Faccoli et al. 2016).
