Endemic to the Atlantic Forest (Sobral et al. 2009) and distributed in the Northeastern and Southeastern regions of Brazil (Sobral et al. 2010).
Shrubs to 3 m tall, leaves 3.0–7.7 × 1.5–3.5 cm, midvein flat or raised on adaxial lamina surface, raceme with the main axis reduced, bracts and bracteoles lanceolate, hypanthium and style glabrous, fruits globose with seeds maculate.
