Known from the Guianas to Brazil (Govaerts et al. 2010) where it is widely distributed (Sobral et al. 2010). In the Northeast region, it is found in the States of Paraíba and Rio Grande do Norte (Silva 2009, Lourenço 2010) and Pernambuco and Sergipe.

In areas of Pernambuco resting, samples were observed with a shrubby habit and shorter leaves, 4– 7.5 × 1.3–3.5 cm, compared to samples that occur in forests that are trees with larger leaves, 8–13 × 2.8–5 cm.
