Endemic to the Atlantic Forest (Sobral et al. 2009) and known from the Northeastern (Proença & Sobral 2006), Southeastern and Southern regions of Brazil (Govaerts et al. 2010; Sobral et al. 2010). Considered extinct in the State of Pernambuco with no records collected in the last 50 years.

Trees 4–6 m tall, leaves 11–13 × 3.5–4.0 cm, midvein sulcate on adaxial lamina surface, raceme with the main axis reduced, apiculate bracts, lanceolate bracteoles, calyx closed in the flower bud and tearing irregularly, hypanthium and style glabrous, fruit globose.
