Neoconocephalus macroxiphus (Redtenbacher, 1891) comb. nov.
Conocephalus macroxiphus Redtenbacher, 1891
This species from French Guiana was described in the genus Conocephalus and subsequently transferred to Homorocoryphus, originally a subgenus of Conocephalus . Practically all species from the Western Hemisphere once assigned to Homorocoryphus are now in Neoconocephalus, except for two that belong to Bucrates . So including this species in the Old World genus Ruspolia (Otte 1997b) was a mistake. According to photos of the female holotype (Cigliano et al. 2024) and an observation of a male from French Guiana on iNaturalist (5 January 2022, currently identified as Ruspolia macroxipha), this species clearly belongs to Neoconocephalus .
Note: “ Ruspolia pulchella (Karny, 1997) ” from Peru in the old OSF is a duplicate of Neoconocephalus pulcher (Karny, 1907) .
