Synonym: Comastrocrinus Clark, 1912: 252; Teliocrinus Döderlein, 1912: 22, Clark, 1923: 10.
Type species of the genus: Hypalocrinus springeri Clark, 1909 .
Emended diagnosis: A pentacrinid genus with primibrachials united by syzygy, and beyond that very variable brachitaxes. IIBrax from 2 to 6: usually with a transverse synarthry at 1+2 and a syzygy at 3+4. IIIBrax from 1 to 4: sometimes with a transverse synarthry at 1+2 or 2+3, and frequently with a synostosis at 3+4 or 4+5. There is a tendency to decrease the number of brachials per brachitaxis through ontogeny up to a single axillary, especially in IIIBr and IVBr. Arm branching: isotomous. Columnal symplexies: with interpetaloid groove of variable width, frequently disappearing in larger mature columnals, which take the typical diplocrinine feature.
