Distribution in South America: Pacific Ocean, Chile, at 27ºS near Pascua Island (Palma 1999); Atlantic Ocean, off Brazilian coast (Totton 1954; Pagès & Gili 1992; Pugh 1999; Migotto et al. 2002)
Habitat: neritic and oceanic species, found in the tropical and subtropical waters (Pugh 1999).
