Type Locality: Dem. Rep. Congo, Ituri Forest, between Mawambi and Avakubi.

Vernacular Names: Dent's Shrew.

Distribution: African Congo Basin (Dem. Rep. Congo, Gabon, Cameroon) and isolated records in West Africa (Guinea, Sierra Leone).

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Considered a distinct species by Heim de Balsac (1959:216). It remains to be determined whether the West African records (Ziegler et al., 2002) are conspecific.
