A common species in W Africa, recorded from Ghana (Bolivar 1886), Cameroon, Togo (De Jong 1960), Congo (Brazzaville) (Ragge 1967), Côte d’Ivoire (Ragge 1968), and Nigeria (Eluwa 1975a, 1975b.)

Material examined. — Ghana: Ashanti (“Ashante”), leg. Reitter— 2 females, 1 male (syntypes) (MNCN); same locality— 1 male (syntype) (MNCN); Eastern Region, Ajenjua Bepo Forest Reserve, elev. 300–320 m (6°22'2.3''N, 1°1'58''W), 26–30.viii.2006, leg. P. Naskrecki, V. Awotwe-Pratt and M. Bakowski (Camp 1)— 1 female (MCZ); Cameroon: Kribi, xii. 1888, leg. Morgan— 1 male (holotype of Mataeus granulicollis Karsch) (ZMHB).
