55. Tympanocompus acclivis Karsch, 1891
This species has a dubious distinction of having the highest number of junior synonyms of any African Pseudophyllinae – 6 species have been synonymized with T. aclivis by Beier (1954, 1962). His decisions clearly need a critical evaluation as even a cursory comparison of some of the species synonymized with T. aclivis (especially Mormotus fulvus Bolivar) reveal strong morphological differences in both the male genitalic structures, and the morphometric characteristics of the thorax. However, since I have not had the opportunity to examine all type specimens of species synonymized with T. aclivis, I must abstain from reversing any of Beier’s synonyms. T. aclivis and all its synonyms have been recorded from Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea (Fernando Poo), and Guinea-Bissau (Beier 1962).
