Diagnosis
Dark brown to black, base of elytron with brick red marks. Pronotum transverse with lateral margin strongly convex (Fig. 7A). Elytron with lateral margin narrow, 2x width of bead at middle, sometimes wider at humeri (Fig. 7 D). Pale marks on elytra most prominent along base, often continuing along suture to apical margin. Male pygidium narrow, subtruncate to shallowly emarginate, anal sclerite with lateral apical margin concave and convergent, apex acuminate (Fig. 7 F), broader at base than apex of pygidium. Length 4.6–5.5mm, Width 1.9–2.3mm.
Lectotype Ψ, glued to card, card labeled: " Brachypeplus sor,-didus, Type D.S., Mauna Loa. Hawaii / " Type H.T." / "Sharp Coll., 1905–313." [from original description: "Found on Mauna Loa at Kilauea, near the "lake of fire", by beating, at an elevation of about 4000 feet." (Sharp 1881: 515)] (BMNH).
