Genus Syrioiulus Verhoeff, 1914

Syrioiulus Verhoeff, 1914: 65 (established as a subgenus of Dolichoiulus).

Type species: Dolichoiulus polyzonus Attems, 1911, by subsequent designation by Jeekel (1970).

Tentative diagnosis: A genus of the tribe Pachyiulini characterized by a (more or less distinctly) spoonshaped promere with two apical denticles, and with an opisthomere deeply divided into a mesomeral and a solenomeral branch, the latter lacking fovea or pseudofovea and pseudoflagellum. Different from the similar genera Afropachyiulus, Amblyiulus, Dolichoiulus, and Japanoiulus mostly by a typically (but not always) weakly pronounced anterior lamella of the solenomere, apically never drawn into a distinct process, and by the solenomere apex being blunt or concave, sometimes bearing minute apical processes or/ and ciliae, but not tapering into a single, pointed tip.
