Type species. Cicada (Calyria) blanda Stål 1862a: 22 . (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

REMARKS. The characteristic features of species of Calyria are five hind wing apical cells, ocelli well separated from base of head, and indistinct fore wing postcostal area (Distant 1906a). Additionally, the ventrolateral postclypeus is flattened without an obvious apical extension and lateral surfaces of the pronotum are parallel for most of its length.

DISTRIBUTION. Species of the genus were reported previously from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua, Peru, and Venezuela (Metcalf 1963c; Maes et al. 2012; Sanborn 2013; 2014a; 2018b; 2019b; 2020a, b; Sanborn & Maes 2012; Sanborn & Heath 2014).
