Type genus. Zammara Amyot & Audinet-Serville 1843: 468 .
REMARKS. These are the New World cicadas with ampliated lateral pronotal margins, hyaline fore wings and hind wings that are more or less spotted and possess a timbal cover that partially or entirely exposes the timbal. The distinguishing characteristics of the tribe are a combination of hind coxae with a large inner protuberance, timbal covers reduced dorsally or recurved on the posterior timbal cavity margin, usually bifurcate basal pygofer lobe, uncus lacking a dorsal crest, and ventral apophyses restraining the aedeagus (Marshall et al. 2018). The genera were recently assigned to one of two subtribes with the synonymy of the Dazini and the shape and size of the timbal covers (Sanborn 2018a).
