Carineta gemella Boulard 1986a: 417 . (Cano Wiraki, 460 m, Venezuela)
REMARKS. This species is another of the group of Peruvian species that are of similar size and general morphology including C. dicrophryxothrix n. sp., C. dolosa, C. doxiptera, C. gemella, C. hamata, C. rumipataensis n. sp., C. socia, C. ventrilloni, and C. viridicata . This species can be distinguished from C. dolosa, C. doxiptera, C. rumipataensis n. sp., and C. ventrilloni by the straight rather than curved posterior margin of the operculum in these species. It can be distinguished from C. dicrophryxothrix n. sp., C. hamata, C. socia, and C. viridicata by the contrasting darker abdominal coloration characteristic of C. gemella .
DISTRIBUTION. The species has been reported previously from Argentina, Brazil, and Venezuela (Sanborn 2013; Sanborn & Heath 2014; Dias et al. 2017; Maccagnan et al. 2018) with recent additions of records for Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador (Barreto & Porfiro 2015), and Paraguay (Sanborn 2019b).
