Synonyms: Cythereis ilosvayi M̧ller 1912; Onychocythere alosa Tressler 1939; Metacypris ometepensis Swain & Gilby 1964; Cytheridella ometepensis Swain & Gilby 1970; Cytheridella iloscayi Purper 1974 (misspelling).

Type locality: Villa Sana, Baches Paso Ita, Paraguay (22º49’ S, 57º05’ W) . Type (¿? Sex not indicated)— HMHN, IV / P–182. Leptotype (1♀)— UFRGS, MP –0–316. Leptoparatype (1♁)— UFRGS, MP –0–317.

In Venezuela: at the following locality according to Bold (1964): ARAGUA and CARABOBO States —no location details, Lake Valencia (GN 10º10’46” N, 67º43’52” W) .

Remarks: geographical distribution of this species includes Argentina (Bechara 1996), Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela (Martens & Behen 1994), Mexico (Cohuo et al. 2016), and Colombia (Ruiz-Jiménez et al. 2020). The record for Venezuela comes from material recovered from recent sediments (Bold 1964). Martens et al. (1998) indicate that the characteristic habitat of the species is lacustrine environments.
