Bibliographic sources: The original description recorded the species occurring in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana and Panama (Sirivanakarn & Galindo, 1980). Taxonomic contributions registered in Pecor et al. (1992), and Sallum & Forattini (1996). This species was included in the taxonomic revision of the Spissipes Section by Sallum & Forattini (1996). Additional comments: The species has been reported as a natural enzootic vector (most likely a secondary vector) of Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus (subtype ID) in Colombia (Ferro et al. 2003).
