Type Locality: "transmitted … from Singapore … Hab. Malayan peninsula, or adjoining islands (?)"; " Philippines, the type specimen having been received from Manila " (Lydekker, 1915:63).

Vernacular Names: Visayan Spotted Deer.

Distribution: Philippines (Panay and Negros Isls; formerly also Guimaras and possibly Siquijor but almost certainly not Bohol, Cebu or any other Isls according to W. Oliver, in litt.).

Conservation: U.S. ESA and IUCN – Endangered as Cervus alfredi .

Discussion: Included in R. marianna by Haltenorth (1963). Revised by Grubb and Groves (1983), where treated as a full species.
