Bidens frondosa Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 832. 1753.
"Habitat in America septentrionale" RCN: 6022.
Lectotype (Jeanmonod in Gamisans & Jeanmonod, Compl. Prodr. Fl. Corse, Asteraceae I: 166. 1998): Herb. Linn. No. 975.6 (LINN) .
Current name: Bidens frondosa L. ( Asteraceae).
Note: Greene (in Pittonia 4: 246-250. 1901) discussed the pre-Linnaean literature at length, and Sherff (in Bot. Gaz. 61: 498. 1916; Publ. Field Mus. Nat. Hist., Bot. Ser. 16: 241. 1937) noted 975.6, 975.7 (LINN) and a Clifford sheet (BM), concluding that Linnaeus "clearly had the first or the third specimen, and probably both, in mind when he drew up his description of B. frondosa for the Species Plantarum ". However, Jeanmonod appears to have been the first to designate one of the collections as the type.
