Bauhinia variegata Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 375. 1753.

"Habitat in Malabariae, Maderae arenosis." RCN: 2951.

Lectotype (Isely in Mem. New York Bot. Gard. 25(2): 191. 1975): [icon] " Chovanna-mandaru " in Rheede, Hort. Malab. 1: 57, t. 32. 1678.

Current name: Bauhinia variegata L. ( Fabaceae: Caesalpinioideae).

Note: De Wit (in Reinwardtia 3: 412. 1956) rejected 535.2 (LINN) as a possible lectotype, but then wrongly chose a neotype (original material was still in existence). Isely rejected de Wit’s neotype in favour of the cited Rheede illustration, which is the lectotype.
