Daunothrips gen. n.
(Figs 2–10)
Type species: D. striatus sp. n.
Head wider than long; mouthcone short, pointed at apex, with 3-segmented maxillary palpi. Ocellar setae I present, setae III arising at mid-point between hind ocelli (Fig. 2). Five pairs of postocular setae, parallel to compound eye, pairs I and II subequal in length to ocellar setae III. Antennae 8-segmented, segment I without median dorsal apical setae, segment II with rows of microtrichia on dorsal surface and none on ventral surface, III and IV with sense cones forked, III–VI with some rows of microtrichia on both dorsal and ventral surfaces (Fig. 9). Pronotum with two pairs of long posteroangular setae (Fig. 2). Mesonotum with median pair setae arising at middle of segment. Metascutum with median pair of setae at or close to anterior margin (Fig. 3). Prosternal ferna divided medially; basantra absent. Prospinasternum variable in thickness and slightly convex (Fig. 5). Mesosternum with sternopleural sutures incomplete. Spinula present on mesosternal and metasternal endofurca. Fore wing first vein with long gap between setae on distal half, second vein with 3 setae; clavus with one discal setae and 4 veinal setae (Fig. 10); posteromarginal fringe cilia straight, except a few cilia slightly undulated near base. Fore tibia without any stout apical setae; tarsi 2-segmented. Abdominal tergites median area covered with irregular sculpture lines, without ctenidia, II–VII with lobed craspedum medially, and lateral area with rows of microtrichia (Fig. 6); tergite II with 2 lateral setae. Setae S1 on tergites II–VII short, distance between their bases almost the same length as the setae. Tergite VIII posteromarginal comb complete; tergite IX without CPS, tergite X without longitudinal median split distally (Fig. 4); sternites without posteromarginal craspeda; II–VI with rows of microtrichia laterally, with 3 pairs of posteromarginal setae, all arising from posterior margin (Fig. 7); pleurotergites without discal setae. Ovipositor developed.
Comments.
Although generally similar to Scirtothrips, this new genus differs from others in the Scirtothrips genus-group in having a posteromarginal craspedum medially on tergites II–VII. Moreover, abdominal tergites II–VIII are covered medially with irregular lines.
