Biology: The red larvae develop freely in the capitulum of Cirsium spp. ( Asteraceae). Our records are from C. arvense . Infected flowers become somewhat disfigured. Bivoltine; pupation and hibernation in the soil. The species is redescribed in Fedotova (1996) and Sylvén & Lindberg (1998).

Distribution: Palearctic. Widespread in Europe including Norway, Sweden and Denmark. Introduced to the USA.
