Type Species: Xeromys myoides Thomas 1889

Species Xeromys myoides Thomas 1889

Discussion: Xeromys Division. Member of the Australian Old Endemics (Musser, 1981 c:166) or Hydromyini of Baverstock (1984) and Lee et al. (1981). Xeromys is phylogenetically distantly related to Hydromys (Watts et al., 1992), and albumin immunology allies Xeromys with Crossomys (but see generic account), Leptomys, and Pseudohydromys (which includes Neohydromys and Mayermys) in a clade that is part of a larger assemblage, the Hydromyini, which contains genera in our Hydromys, Pseudomys, and Uromys Divisions (the "Australasian clade" of Watts and Baverstock, 1994 b, 1995 b, 1996).
