Batomys granti Thomas 1895, Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist., ser. 6, 16: 162.

Type Locality: Philippines, N Luzon Isl, Mountain Province, Mt Data, 7000 ft (2134 m).

Vernacular Names: Luzon Batomys.

Distribution: Greater Luzon Faunal Region. Recorded only from mountain forests of Luzon Isl, Mt Data in north and Mt Isarog in SE peninsula; probably more widespread in mountains of N Luzon (Heaney et al., 1998).

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Morphological features indicate B. granti to be more closely related to B. salomonseni than to other species of Batomys (Musser et al., 1998 a) . Karyotype (2n = FN = 52) indistinguishable between samples from S and N regions of Luzon, and from B. salomonseni (Rickart and Heaney, 2002; Rickart and Musser, 1993). Altitudinal range and ecological information provided by Heaney et al. (1999).
