Discussion: Subgenus Gerbillus . See the references cited by Lay (1983) for characters defining this distinctive Moroccan endemic. Lay (1975) also documented the striking morphological and chromosomal contrasts between G. hesperinus and Moroccan G. hoogstraali and G. occiduus .
