Bombus mucidus mollis Pérez 1879

This subspecies appears in the Cantabrian Range and in the Pyrenees, between 1400 and 2500 m, on forest areas (Ornosa & Ortiz-Sánchez 2004). It was known by 13 individuals in historical records (1970-1998) and by 41 before 1950 (Ornosa 1984, Rasmont 1988, Castro 1996).

Currently, it has been collected in the Pyrenees between 1660 and 2050 m (Fig. 7), in grasslands and shrublands in forests of Pinus uncinata, with patches of upperforest subalpine scrub on Cirsium acaule (L.) Scop., Gentiana lutea L., Lotus corniculatus L. and Trifolium repens L.

According to current data, this species exhibits greater elevational tendency in its lower level (Fig. 7) in the Pyrenees, where it has decreased and seems to be threatened (Table 2).
